It transfers the power from the engine crankshaft to a pulley that's mounted to the air conditioning compressor. A clutch is made of two separate parts: an electromagnetic coil and a friction disc. The coil creates magnetic forces that then push the friction into the clutch's assembly, causing the compressor to rotate with the shaft.
