All About Mercedes-Benz Bumpers

The factory bumpers on your Mercedes-Benz vehicle are critical when it comes to protecting you if you're involved in an accident. They absorb the impact's energy, reducing the effects of a collision on both you and your passengers. To some degree, they also help to protect pedestrians.

Bumpers were originally rigid metal bars. These days, their structures are more likely to have plastic covers that sit over reinforcement bars. Those bars can be made of aluminum, steel, plastic, or a fiberglass composite. The covers are typically made of a combination of polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS).

The size of a bumper matters, too. A smaller bumper, on the one hand, can improve fuel economy. A steel bumper with a longer overhang, on the other hand, offers better protection against road hazards.

Unfortunately, any bumper's bound to take damage sooner or later. While minor scratches and dings may not be particularly attractive, if your bumper ends up with a few, your ride's still safe to drive. That's not the case, however, if its bumper's in danger of falling off, of it it's already come loose. Not only is that a dangerous situation, but it may also make driving the luxury car or SUV you love illegal.

You're in luck; if you're looking for a new one, we stock a huge selection of replacements. If you need help with repairs, you're welcome to get in touch with a Mercedes-benz dealer to schedule a service appointment.
