Mercedes-Benz Rocker Arms

What Are Rocker Arms?

Simply, they're part of the engine in your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. They transfer the motion from the pushrod to the correct intake or outtake valve.

The Types of Mercedes-Benz Rocker Arms

There are six major types of rocker arms. Those are:

  • Stamped steel: the most affordable kind, these are also the easiest to manufacture. As the name suggests, they're stamped from a single piece of metal. A pivot keeps the rocker in place, and a rounded-bottom nut frees the rocker arm to move vertically.
  • Roller tipped: while very similar to stamped steel rocker arms, these also have a roller on the valve tip end. That limits friction, and thus wear-and-tear.
  • Full roller: Made from either machined steel or aluminum, this type uses bearings in place of the pivot-- though the pivot stud remains. Their short shaft had internal bearings at each end.
  • Shaft: this kind is much like their full roller, but features an internal shaft that adds rigidity and limits movement and deflection of the valve train.
  • Center pivot: this type is used with overhead cam engines. Instead of needing the pushrod, center pivot rocker arms are moved by the camshaft. The pivot point is in the middle of the rocker arm, with the camshaft placed at one end.
  • End pivot: Also used with overhead cam engines, this type places the pivot point at one end and the camshaft in the middle.
