The Smart brand story begins in 1972. Mercedes-Benz was conceptualizing a completely new kind of car. The first sketches were of a two-seater, with an electric motor mounted up front, a rear-mounted battery, and a short wheelbase. It became the 1981 NAFA project eventually, one revived in 1988, and one which became the MCC (Micro Compact Car) project in 1991.

A coupe and cabriolet appeared in 1994, and soon after, so did the Eco Sprinter, a vehicle promoted as, in short, "a smart car for the millennium." The Smart name was born, a truncation, one that officially stands for "Swatch Mercedes-Benz Art." The first official Smart car debuted in 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, as well as at the Paris Motor Show, and it officially released in 1997. The rest was history.

Here at Mercedes-Benz USA Parts, we strive to uphold that legacy, in the wide variety of Smart parts we sell -- everything from body parts and brakes to engines and HVAC systems. More importantly, though, we sell only genuine OEM parts, straight from the Smart brand, designed to be compatible specifically with the car you love to drive.
